Fargo


Fargo is a city in Cass county in North Dakota. It is the county seat of Cass County. According to the census of the year 2000 this the most populous city of North Dakota withan estimated population of 90,599. The city is the economic hub for a large portion of eastern North Dakota. Fargo is a retail, manufacturing, healthcare and educational hub of the region. It is also the home of the Nort dakota State University. Founded in th year 1871 the motto of the city is "Gateway to the West". The local newspaper is The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

Due to its location in the Great Plain and its distance from both the mountains and oceans, the city has an extreme continental climate. The city is knon for its long, cold and snowy winters. In sharp contrast to this, the summers are warm to hot and is often quite humid accompanied by frequent thunder storms. Spring nd autumn are short and highly variable season. Economically, Fargo has always ben dependent on agriculture. That dominance is gradually decreased in the subsequent years. Now the city of Fargo has a growing economy based on food processing, technology, health care,retail trade, higher education and manufacturing. The largest non-governmental employers in the city include: MeritCare Health System, Alien Technology, US Bank, Microsoft and Blue Cross or Blue Shield



The Fargo public school system operated fifteen elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools and an alternative high school. The higher education of Fargo consists of North Dakota State University or NDSU with over 12,000 students. The city is also the home for several other private institutions. Fargo offers a wide variety of cultural opportunities for a city of thi size. Most of the theaters and events are either promoted or produced through the university . Because of the presence of the three universities in the metropolitan area, Fargo has a rich culture.
