Minot


The city of Minot is the county seat of the county of Ward. This city is located in the north central part of North Dakota. Founded in 1886, this city is known as the Magic City and is also the fourth largest city of North Dakota. The city of Minot has a land area of around 37.7 square kilometers. The important features of the city includes the Souris River, its creeks and oxbow lakes.

The form of government in Minot is the Council Manager System. There are 7 wards in the city and two members are elected from each ward for a period of four years. The mayor of the city is also elected for a period of 4 years. Though Minot has followed a conservative form of government, in the recent years they are heading towards a liberal form of government.
Education in Minot is an important part of the society. The Minot Public Schools System controls all the schools. There are various types of schools here which include the elementary schools, middle schools, and public high school. There are private schools as well in Minot. Some of the important elementary schools in Minot include Edison, Bel Air, Lewis and Clark and others. One important public school in Minot is the Minot High School which has a Central Campus and a Magic City Campus. The important private schools in Minot include the Minot Catholic Schools. The higher education in Minot is taken care by the Minot State University.



Various recreation facilities in Minot are available. There are around 17 parks and gardens in the city which are taken care by Minot Park District. Other recreational facilities include sports which are common all over the city. The high school and colleges here have facilities for organizing baseball games. There is a soccer complex in the city as well. There is a indoor tennis complex here along with the Souris Valley Golf Course and the Apple Grove Golf Course. The Roosevelt Park Zoo which ranks among the top 10 zoos in USA is situated here. People also enjoy visiting the North Dakota State fair which is held here every year.
