The county seat of Williams County is known as Williston. This city was founded in the year 1887 and was named after Lorenzo P. Williston. He was among the first justices of Dakota Territorial Supreme Court. The city has a population of 12,512 people and has a population density of 693.1 persons per square kilometer. The various ancestry groups that make up the population of the city includes the French, Swedish, English, Irish, German as well as Norwegians.
