Williston


The county seat of Williams County is known as Williston. This city was founded in the year 1887 and was named after Lorenzo P. Williston. He was among the first justices of Dakota Territorial Supreme Court. The city has a population of 12,512 people and has a population density of 693.1 persons per square kilometer. The various ancestry groups that make up the population of the city includes the French, Swedish, English, Irish, German as well as Norwegians.

Agriculture and oil industry is the mainstay of the economy of Williston. Geographically this city lies in the center of the Williston Oil Basin. The economy of Williston is also dependent on the railroad called Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Livestocks are an important part of the economy of the city. Williston also has a number of tourist attractions which also plays a major role in the economy of the city. It helps the city to earn revenue.
Transportation in Williston is quite developed. There is an airport in the city known as the Williston Sloulin Field International Airport and Great Lakes Airlines serves this airport. The roadways are also quite developed and there are bus services within the city. Other than this there are car and taxi services also available. The rail services in Williston is provided by Amtrak.



Education in Williston city as well the surrounding local area are controlled by Williston Public School District. According to this system the city is divided into two districts which are known as District#1 and District#8. The first one serves the city whereas the other one serves the rural ares.
