Since September 11, 2001, North Dakota public health and medical communities have been preparing to meet large-scale emergencies and disasters, caused by both intentional and unintentional hazards. This approach of meeting all-hazards has effectively resulted in high levels of preparedness for a variety of threats that even includes pandemic influenza. The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) has received federal funds for enhancing medical emergency preparedness and public health of the entire state.

The NDDoh has also created the Emergency Preparedness and Response Section that handles the responsibility of building a coordinated health and medical capacity in the Department's various divisions. It also enables the same to the laboratories, public health, emergency medical service providers, clinics and hospitals. There is also the North Dakota Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NDSHP) that is formed for advancing public health by the promotion of the professional interests of pharmacists who are practicing in hospitals and clinics or in some other organized health-care settings or institutions.
The NDSHP does its work in close contact with the North Dakota Pharmacists Association (NDPhA) and also holds a joint convention with the NDPhA annually. During this convention, NDSHP conducts a separate business meeting and all the members send invitation to attend it. The NDSHP represents health-system pharmacists in legislative and regulatory issues. They also contact those legislative officers who are concerned with Medicare funding of residency programs and also focused on the importance of holding pharmacists.
