The history of North Dakota State Fair states that the fair was first held in Minot in the year 1922, but was not officially approved by the state government until the year 1966. The North Dakota State Fair ranks as the largest event in the state of North Dakota that attracts more than 250,000 people every year. The number of visitors increased every year from 2000 to 2006. This year, i.e., in 2007, the Midwest Dairy Association has sponsored the first ever butter sculpture at this state fair, named as "Cow on a Harley" created by Jim Victor of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The 2007 fair runs from July 21-28 in Minot, and the excitement continues for a complete week! In the fair you can go for toothsome dairy treats at the malt wagon situated across the dairy burn. There are other delicious food items, too, that promises to give a great blow to your tastebuds.
This fair also crowns a new Dairy Princess every year. So, watch the beauty contest as you enjoy a vanilla, chocolate or strawberry shake. You can also for the ice cold glassful of white cream milk or chocolate, or lick a hand-dipped flavored ice cream cone or a stick. There are several events held in this fair like sporting events, theatre performance, live music concert, etc. Enjoy this great Midwestern tradition which is the largest public event in North Dakota, annually.
