The museum is a non-profit organization operated by a group of volunteers. The museum was funded by Dickinson Hospitality Tax Revenues. The replicas of the real bones of different dinosaur species like Allosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Albertosaurus and Stegosaurus are really overwhelming. There are eleven full scale dinosaur structures in the museum. The dinosaur skeletons originated from the prehistoric Triassic-Cretaceous time. The replica skeleton and the skulls of real Triceratops are the best displays in the museum. The dinosaur sculptures of Archaeopteryx, Dromaeosaurus, Compsognathu, Coelophysis,Velociraptor and Deinonychus have been exported from Texas.
Apart from dinosaur skeletons Dakota Dinosaur Museum also displays various temporary exhibits like amber, fluorescent minerals and fossils. Beautiful nuggets, jewelry and a wide array of insect fossils are on display in the museum. One of the newest and the most popular exhibits in the museum is Venus clam, Mercenaria permagna, from Florida. The skeletal of the specimen is stuffed with calcite crystal providing an excellent view. The popular mineral displays in the Dakota Dinosaur Museum are selenite gypsum and blue halite from Poland, Peruvian managano calcite and the sacred mookaite jasper from Australia.
