Devils Lake

One of the largest fresh water lakes in USA Devils Lake is located in the district of North Dakota. The pristine beauty of the tranquil waters is quite enchanting to the soul. The city of Devils Lake situated at North Dakota is named after this lake. The city of Devils Lake is located between Benson county and Ramsey County. A major city located in north eastern part of North Dakota, it remains one of the favorite holiday destination for many a people. The Devil's Lake has an extensive drainage basin of 8,600 square km. At a level of 1,446 ft the crystal clear waters of the lake spill over into the nearby Stump Lake. However after crossing the level of 1,459 feet the lake naturally flows into the Sheyenne River. But this is a rare incident and it hardly ever happens. You can also put on your camping shoes and go for a camping session at the lake. When the water level of the lake rises to a higher level, most of the water drains into the Red river valley. This however, is harmful to the popular fishing industry of the region. The over flooding of the river adversely effects such fishes as Walleye and Northern Pike.

Tourists from across the world have always flocked at The Devil's Lake for enjoying many a recreational activities. Better known as the perch capital, The Devil's Lake is a major destination for fishing boating and a whole lot of other water sports. Due to excessive flooding of its banks, many recreational areas around the lake like Shelver's Grove State Recreational Area has been closed down off late. In spite of it opportunities come in galore for holiday makers at the Devil's Lake . Kids and young children specially love to take a joy ride to Grahams Island State Park. This beautiful park is located right in the middle of the lake. As an interesting alternative you may also visit Sully's Hill National Game Preserve.
