Medora Musical

Medora Musical is an outdoor theatrical musical . Famous for producing some of the greatest musicals of its generation, Medora Musical is situated in the historic town of Medora. also known as the Burning Hills Amphitheater this structure was "hand carved" in 1958 out of the local badlands. Since the theater is located in a natural bowl it offers a panoramic view of the acoustics and musicals that are a part of Medora Musical . One of the living specimens of local culture Medora Musical has attracted tourists and theater lovers of the world for a long time. In 1965 the building was bought by North Dakota businessman Harold Schafer. With his effort Medora Musical saw a new renovation. Recruiting new talent and revising the content of the shows were a few of the major changes undertaken at that time. Melodramatic scenes, fighting, apparently impossible situations wee also included into the dramatics. A super fast-moving mix of singing, dancing, horses, riders, variety acts, dramatic scenes, and wagons are an integral part of Medora Musical today.

Since President Roosevelt was a staunch supporter of Medora Musical , Roosevelt's recorded voice is played at the background during any of the final staging of a program. With fabulous fireworks follow merry music. Finally there is a giant "face-in-fireworks" of president Roosevelt himself. Then the entire cast and crew of the show take a majestic bow. In 1968 for the betterment of the theater Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation was set up. Since then this non profit organization has worked all along for the betterment of Medora Musical The Medora Musical production and the Burning Hills Amphitheater have been a part of the foundation since then. The total number of seats too were increased around this time to 2,863 seats. From early June to mid September Medora Musical runs a regular show everyday which starts around 8:30 pm in the evening everyday. Today escalators, elevators and many modern day facilities are available in this out door theater. A witness of many historical events this theater has successfully entertained many many famous figures of the country.
